zackistumblr: What just happened?
I have been debating how to write this blog post since about 3pm yesterday. But I wanted all the personal attacks to stop and the community to calm down, so I could get a good read on what’s actually happening to the CodeIgniter “community,” and not just give a knee jerk reaction.
About 15 hours…
Some great insight from Mr. Kitzmiller into the CodeIgniter drama goings-on that have been happening as of late. It’s no secret that Forrst has moved away from CI for the upcoming v3 release. I made the decision ~1.5 months ago largely based on what I feel is best for the site and its architecture. It also did have a bit to do with the way CI releases are handled, the fact that it’s really difficult to call CI a real community project, some really backwards (IMO) “features” of the framework, and most of all — reinforced tenfold by the way Ellis has handled the current situation — the simple fact that they obviously have no idea how to do the community thing. As someone who runs a community of devs and designers, I don’t want Forrst powered by a framework run by a company that seemingly stands for the exact opposite of what I believe in. Certainly wasn’t apparent when I decided to make the move, but now that the smoke has cleared, I feel even better about the decision.
