This post is inspired by one of my favorite upstate jaunts, Kate’s Lazy Meadow Motel, located in Mt. Trempor, NY. Kate’s (owned by Kate Pierson of the B52s) is a very special place indeed, clad with retro decor and a general loveshack ambience. They’ve even got an Airstream garden in the back, which touts rentals in the summertime with catchy individual unit names like “Bubbles” and “Hairstream”. And, for all you dog owners out there (like myself), they have doggie friendly units available! Here’s how to equip your four-legged friend (ahem, dachshund) with Kate’s-like style and savvy.
1. Noodle and Friends Classic Trench: Noodles and Friends is a breed-specific website dedicated to all things dachshund. I know Opal has trouble finding sweaters and winter wear that are long enough to cover her bum, and large enough around the breastbone (she’s a busty gal). The jackets and outwear just happen to be custom tailored, and classy classy classy! And, Noodle donates a portion of the sales to Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue.
2. Mini Skineez Woodland Creatures Dog Toys: Skineez are plush-free toys that won’t leave bits of fuzz strewn all about the apartment. Available here.
3. Peanut Butter & Jelly Dog Good Dog Treats by Sojos: With flavors like PB&J, Apple Dumpling, and Blueberry Cobbler, Sojos treats are tasty and health conscious (they’re wheat and corn free). Cute packaging too!
4. Hydrangea Seersucker Custom Dog Collar by Pecan Pie Puppies: Admittedly, I’ve purchased two of Pecan Pie Puppies collars. Based out of Columbia, SC, their handmade collars are well-constructed and the little flower snaps off so the collar can be thrown in the wash.
5. Nomad Dog’s House by Marco Morosini for Dog is God: I happened to stumble upon this site while googling “mod dog beds”. Italian designer, Marco Morosini, creates an adorable doggie-sized Airstream. I want! I want!
A snippet of Morosini’s mantra:
[Dogs] are primitive gods, affectionate and sentimental, now living on a human scale that we’ve created. Man’s most faithful friend becomes a God. Marco Morosini has chosen to become an animal designer, creating temples for his four-legged Gods: tailor-made habitats created in the likeness of those of man and designed for their different attitudes and lifestyles. These habitats bark exclusivity, class, elegance and comfort.
